Although it is possible to obtain a memorial stone from easily found
outlets, many have found that it is unsatisfactory when what is required
is such an emotive and personal statement.
I enjoy working Closely with my clients to achieve this piece of sculpture
that they feel is a true expression of their loved one and something that
satisfies their requirements.
The working process may involve several alterations to the design, both
in terms of lettering, or relief carving and other elements. I encourage
clients to visit my workshop, not only for initial meetings, but to see
the work in progress.
I see this way of working as a shared artistic process, and one that I
hope is a gentle and healing time for the client.
I enjoy making memorials in traditional English limestone and Welsh or
Cumbrian slates.
In designing I often refer back to Eric Gill and letter cutters and carvers
artistically descended from his teaching such as David Kindersley and
Tom Perkins.
Clients interested in this area of my work are welcome to contact me directly
or can discuss ideas with my agent Memorials by Artists, who have created
a register of letter cutters and stonecarvers under the auspices of Harriet
Frazer.
